Year-end tax planning for business owners

Five things to settle before Dec. 31, while there is still time to act on them.

Most tax planning only works before the year closes. Settle these with your accountant in the fall.

  • Estimate this year’s profit from your books through September
  • Decide on equipment purchases before Dec. 31
  • Check your retirement plan’s deadlines
  • Collect a Form W-9 from every contractor you paid
  • Book a planning meeting for November

Bring your year-to-date financial statements. We will tell you what each choice changes on the return.

General information, not tax, accounting or legal advice for your situation. Each item is dated when published.
